* Troubleshooting
  1. TRIM Context launches instead of TRIM Desktop when I follow a TRIM link in an email.
  2. TRIM Buttons are not appearing in Outlook.
  3. TRIM Buttons are not working in Outlook.
  4. Emails are not launching in their native application (Outlook format) but in the TRIM viewer or format.
  5. I can’t view a document in its native application.
  6. I can’t see documents that have been saved alternatively within other containers.
  7. I need to delete a record.

Symptom

Possible Fix

TRIM Context launches instead of TRIM Desktop when I follow TRIM link in an email.

  1. Open TRIM Desktop
  2. Click on the Options button TRIM Icon 
  3. Click on the General tab
  4. Select TRIM Desktop from the Associate TRIM Context Reference Files with drop down menu.
  5. Click OK

TRIM Buttons are not appearing in Outlook.

There are several possible solutions to this problem:
Solution 1

  1. Open TRIM Desktop
  2. Click on the Options button TRIM Icon 
  3. Click on the Integration tab
  4. Check that Use ODMA directly with TRIM and Integrate TRIM with Microsoft Outlook are ticked.
  5. Close and re-open Outlook

Solution 2

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook
  2. Click on the Help Menu
  3. Select About Microsoft Office Outlook
  4. Click on the Disabled Items button
  5. If TRIM appears in the disabled items list select it and click on the enable button.
  6. Close and OK
  7. Close and restart Outlook

TRIM Buttons are not working in Outlook

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook
  2. Click on the TRIM drop down menu
  3. Select Settings
  4. If QUT TRIM Production does not appear in the Configuration for Dataset field, select the yellow folder at the end of the field and select QUT TRIM Production.  [If QUT TRIM Production is not an option click on advanced.  Make sure the Local (TRIM Workgroup Server will run locally) is not ticked.  In the Primary field type trim-gp1. Click OK]
  5. Click OK

Emails are not launching in their native application (Outlook format) but in the TRIM viewer or format.

  1. Open TRIM Desktop
  2. Click on the Options button TRIM Icon 
  3. Click on the Viewer tab
  4. Check that When viewing mail messages, and a native rendition exists, launch the native mail application ie Outlook is ticked.
  5. Click OK

I can’t view a document in its native application

  1. Open TRIM Desktop
  2. Click on the Options button TRIM Icon 
  3. Click on the Viewer tab
  4. In the blank field type the extension for the file type you are trying to view type and click add. For example “doc” for Microsoft Word documents; “xls” for Microsoft Excel documents; and “pdf” for Adobe Acrobat documents.
  5. Click OK

I can’t see documents that have been saved alternatively within other containers.

  1. Open TRIM Desktop
  2. Click on the Options button TRIM Icon 
  3. Select the Record List Pane tab
  4. Tick Include Records with the ‘Alternatively within’ relationship when displaying the contents of a folder.
  5. Click OK

I need to delete a record.

End users do not have access rights to delete records from the system.  Power Users however have the option to move records into a delete bucket in TRIM (for more information please contact RMS at records@qut.edu.au).  Alternatively, send Records Management Services (RMS) a TRIM link to the records that need to be deleted (records@qut.edu.au).  Please include in the email the reason the record needs to be deleted (eg. duplicate record).  This request must come from the person who registered the folder or document, and it must be within five working days of the record being registered.  Records are purged from this folder on a monthly basis.
